Changing the Face of Education:
Why Students Enroll in CTE Programs

In a recent survey among Arizona Tech Prep students, parents, and educators, respondents were asked why students enrolled in Career and Technical education.1 The responses, listed below, mirror findings from national studies. For example, both nationally and within Arizona, students learned about the programs through recruitment, and enrolled in them mainly because the program was a match with the student’s future career path. See chart below for all the reasons students shared.

In one such national study, most students learned about career and technical programs through career centers, and chose to participate in the program because of an interest in the area of study. In this study, students also reported that earning advance college credit was an important factor, and parents played a critical role in the decision of pursuing a career and technical program.2
