Tech Prep Works: Student Success Stories

All over the state, Tech Prep programs are helping students gain skills for future success. In the Western Maricopa Tech Prep Consortium, our students and teachers are realizing some of this success right now. AZ Tech Prep Super Stars have been sighted recently at Buckeye Union High School, Barry Goldwater High School, and Ironwood High School. Congratulations to all of these outstanding Tech Prep students and teachersthey are AZ Super Starsand they shine.

Robert Paulsell (left) won the gold and Stephen Lenhart (center) won the silver. Lenhart also won the silver in the American Design Drafting Associations National Architectural Drafting CompetitionCollege Level. T. J. Karch (right) won the bronze.

Buckeyes Agriculture Mechanics team, pictured at left, captured the state FFA championship in a four-hour skills event and qualified for the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky, in October. The Buckeye Agriculture Mechanics team, including Tech Prep students Tyler Sutter, Adam Cambron, Hunter Howe, and Ryan Sutter, was coached by FFA advisor Quint Molina and parent Dave Howe. Tyler Sutter received the highest individual score in the competition consisting of 80 participants in 20 teams. Cambron ranked third, Howe ranked fifth, and Ryan Sutter ranked eleventh.

Ironwood High School Tech Prep senior Jamil Coury, right, plans to attend Arizona State University this fall using the $20,000 Citigroup Academy Scholarship he was awarded through the National Academy of Finance Program. Coury was selected through an application process and on the basis of his outstanding academic and leadership skills. Over 32,000 students worldwide participate in the National Academy Foundation.
