Nancy Dillon, Community College Tech Prep Consultant

Tech Prep sometimes seems synonymous with High School, as it is often thought of only in the context of what it does for high school students and programs. However, Tech Prep also plays an important role by articulating career and technical secondary programs to postsecondary occupational programs. Tech Prep provides strong support for occupational degrees and certificates offered at the community college level.

This is accomplished through student recruitment and orientation, professional development opportunities for faculty, and student follow-up. Articulation efforts link college faculty with their secondary counterparts through face-to-face communication to achieve outreach for high school students—many of whom might not otherwise pursue higher education. Students can obtain college credits while in high school so a seamless transition to college is possible, and these Tech Prep links equal better-prepared students at the postsecondary level.
